New Horizons spacecraft awes with close-up photos of Pluto

The photos of dwarf planet Pluto shot this week by the deep space probe New Horizons were remarkable.
They showed an ice covered planet with stark changes in topography – from vast, craterless plains to craggy mountains.
The NASA spacecraft will reveal more secrets of the distant world over the next 16 months as it transmits to Earth data stored on its recorders. (See article by the Daily Mail and NASA’s New Horizons website.)
In November 1985 while working for the Streator Times-Press in central Illinois, I interviewed astronomer Clyde Tombaugh who discovered Pluto in 1930. (I’ll post that article below.)
