Roadside memorials, a reminder to drive safely

Recently someone placed a flower setting on the grass verge along the north side of Baron Cameron Avenue near Hunter Mill Road in Reston, Virginia. That was the site of a two-car wreck that resulted in one fatality on Oct. 29.
I can only assume the flowers are a memorial to the man who died in the crash. (See article by the Fairfax County Times.)
There are quite a few such roadside memorials around where I live, especially on Leesburg Pike, aka Route 7, in Fairfax County, Virginia.
One, at the intersection of Leesburg Pike and Lewinsville Road, features four crosses. It marks the spot where four teenagers died when their car was struck broadside by a dump truck in June 1992. (See articles by the Washington Post and Patch.)
Roadside memorials are interesting because they mark the spot where someone met a horrible end. They may be macabre but should serve as a reminder that driving a 2-ton piece of machinery can be very dangerous.
