After months of magazine covers depicting President Donald Trump as a pig, clown, tornado, grenade and other unflattering things, magazine publishers changed course in late July and early August. They started showing him as a human being.
Perhaps they’re just taking a rest after a flurry of negative Trump covers following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month.
The August issue of Newsmax juxtaposed photos of Trump and Ronald Reagan. Newsmax is a politically conservative publication run by Trump supporter Christopher Ruddy.
The Aug. 10 issue of Newsweek features a straightforward photo of Trump for its cover on the president remaking the Republican Party.
The Aug. 13-20 issue of The Nation features a regular photo of Trump. It’s tinted yellow though, perhaps as a metaphor for yellow journalism. The Nation has a progressive political slant. It endorsed Bernie Sanders for president in the 2016 election.
British political magazine New Statesman showed Trump surfing with other world leaders in an illustration for the lighthearted cover of its July 27-Aug. 9 issue.
