I’ve been writing about halls of fame for several years now and did my first roundup of articles on the subject two years ago.

Halls of fame for curling, Jacuzzis, heavy metal, intellectual property law

There’s a hall of fame for just about every passion and pursuit. Most don’t have physical buildings and museums. They exist online or have annual events.
Here’s the latest batch of virtual halls of fame that I’ve spotted.

Canadian Curling Hall of Fame

Canadians love the ice sport of curling, so it makes sense that they’d have a hall of fame to honor the country’s best players.
The Curling Canada Hall of Fame has an online museum of artifacts and historical information along with a list of inductees. It is operated by Curling Canada, the sanctioning body for the sport in Canada.
Member organizations in Curling Canada have their own regional halls of fame. They include curling halls of fame for Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The World Curling Hall of Fame is managed by the World Curling Federation, which is headquartered in Scotland.

Women in Poker Hall of Fame

The Women in Poker Hall of Fame started inducting prominent female poker players in 2008. The hall has partnered with Poker Gives for making charitable contributions.

Women Superstars Uncensored Hall of Fame

Women Superstars Uncensored, a women’s professional wrestling organization, created its own hall of fame in 2009. The most recent athlete to be inducted into the Women Superstars Uncensored Hall of Fame is the “Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez, the longest reigning champion in WSU history.

International Sports Hall of Fame

The International Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 2012 “to honor legendary athletes from around the world for their sports performance, as well as for what they do later in life by giving back to society, mentoring young people, and representing their sports in a positive way.”
This year’s inductees included mixed martial arts star Ronda Rousey.

Jacuzzi Hall of Fame

Jacuzzi Hot Tubs honors its best dealers with induction into the Jacuzzi Hall of Fame.
In February, Idaho Falls, Idaho-based Brady’s became the ninth company in the Jacuzzi’s 60-year history to receive the honor. (See articles by MagicValley.com and East Idaho News.)

Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame

Heating, ventilating and air conditioning system maker Carrier also has a hall of fame for its best dealers. Carrier, a unit of United Technologies, earlier this month picked two dealers for its Carrier Dealer Hall of Fame.

Decibel Hall of Fame

Decibel magazine, an authority on heavy metal rock music, selects the greatest metal albums of all time for its Decibel Hall of Fame.
Recent inductees include Paradise Lost’s “Icon,” Kreator’s “Pleasure to Kill, Monster Magnet’s “Spine of God” and Nuclear Assault’s “Game Over.”

High-Performance Computer Architecture Hall of Fame

The HPCA Hall of Fame includes authors with eight or more papers in the International Symposium on High Performance Computer Architecture (HPCA). It is maintained by the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computer Architecture. The HPCA Hall of Fame currently includes just 39 members.

IP Hall of Fame

Leading intellectual property magazine IAM has an IP Hall of Fame that honors those who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of IP law and practice.

Fairfax County, Virginia’s annoying one-lane bridges

Around where I live in the Reston-Vienna-Great Falls area of Fairfax County, Virginia, there are a number of major thoroughfares with one-lane bridges.
When there’s two-way traffic, both sides have to stop and let cars go over the bridge one at a time (sometimes two at a time, if you’re lucky). Traffic backs up at these bridges during rush hour. It’s a pet peeve of mine.
I don’t know why the road crews didn’t put two lanes on these bridges over creeks when the roads were built. Maybe they wanted a certain rustic charm or a way to slow down traffic. Either way I’m against it.
So I was happy to read that the Virginia Department of Transportation is looking to replace one of those aging one-lane bridges with a two-lane structure. Construction on that bridge on Hunter Mill Road at Colvin Run isn’t expected to start until spring 2021 though. Government moves slowly.

8 actresses who have played Mulan and one more who will

Disney is currently producing a live-action remake of its 1998 animated musical “Mulan,” which is about the legendary Chinese woman warrior.
Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, is set to star in the movie, due for release in 2020.
Liu will join eight other actresses who have portrayed Mulan in live-action movies and TV shows, excluding silent films.

Sexy depictions of Disney’s Mulan

At least two Disney princesses are based on real-life people: Mulan and Pocahontas. But they are still treated like fantasy characters by pop-culture artists.
Today I’m going to review sexy depictions of Disney’s Mulan, not Hua Mulan, the legendary female warrior of Chinese history.

Mexican artist Camus Altamirano illustrated Mulan as a scantily clad sword swinger. (Check out his artwork at DeviantArt.)

Russian-born graphic artist Andrew Tarusov, who now lives in Los Angeles, depicted Mulan as a Playboy cover model. (For more information on Tarusov and his work, visit his website.)

Mexican artist Biaani made a series of pictures showing Disney princesses as pin-up girls, including Mulan. (Check out her artwork at DeviantArt.)

Artist Isaiah Stephens did a series of illustrations showing Disney princesses as though they were pop singer Britney Spears. He depicted Mulan as “Work Bitch” Britney. (Check out his work at DeviantArt and his website.)

Artist Joel Santana has done a series called Inked Princesses that depict the ladies of Disney as tattoo fans. (For more information on Santana, check out his website.)

Illustrator Lupa1985 did a series of sexy pin-up girl pictures of the Disney princesses, including Mulan. (See article by iDiari di Casanova. I have no other information on the artist. If you do, email me.)

Israeli artist Chesia, aka MeryChess, made a piece titled “Mulan. Love your scars.” (See more art at her DeviantArt page.)

Russian artist Alexandra Tokareva, aka Hija Turner, did an illustration of a cute tattooed modern Mulan. (See her work at DeviantArt.)

Disney princesses as Playboy Playmates, Hogwarts students and hand pies

Creative types love messing with Disney’s princesses, reinterpreting them in different media and doing mashups with other entertainment properties.
 I’ve written about such remixes and interpretations frequently on this blog.
What follows are the latest examples that I’ve seen.

Graphic artist Andrew Tarusov depicted Disney princesses as though they grew up to be Playboy Playmates. (See article by Bored Panda.)

German cosplayer Liechee recently dressed as Anna, Elsa, Ariel and Rapunzel as if they were students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. (See article by GeekTyrant.)

Instagram model Hamel Patel dressed up as Disney princesses as if they had been from India. (See article by GeekTyrant.)

Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin of Pies Are Awesome made a series of Disney princess hand pies. (See article by Laughing Squid.)

And finally, Instagram user Dada16808 did a series of illustrations that juxtapose heroes with their other halves, be they loved ones or sidekicks. (See article by GeekTyrant.)

Sexy depictions of Jasmine from Disney’s ‘Aladdin’

Many pop-culture artists like to sex up Disney fairytale princesses for fun. I’ve covered such adult portrayals of Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and others on this blog.
Today I’m doing a roundup of sexy portrayals of Jasmine from “Aladdin” (1992).

Pin-up girl artist Elias Chatzoudis has done several notable sexy depictions of Jasmine. Currently based in Concord, New Hampshire, Chatzoudis is a freelance illustrator for comic book covers and other illustrations. An artist named Tray made a busty, braless illustration of Jasmine on a flying carpet. Unfortunately I couldn’t find more information on the artist online. (Email me if you have details.)

Other pop-culture artists like to update Disney princesses by making them edgy tattooed ladies.
Artist Joel Santana has done a series called Inked Princesses that depict the ladies of Disney as fans of tattoos. (For more information on Santana, check out his website.)

Italian artist Emmanuel Viola created a set of Disney princess art that reimagines them as hipsters with tattoos. (Check out his website.)

Artist Melanie of Mela Makes Art created a tattooed version of Jasmine as well. (For more information on her work, check out Facebook and Instagram.)

President Trump depicted as glutton, grenade and captain of sinking ship on latest magazine covers

Now early in the second year of his presidency, Donald Trump is still a target of derision by magazine publishers.
