Emma Watson from the “Harry Potter” film series has been cast to play Belle in a live-action Walt Disney movie based on the fairytale “Beauty and the Beast.”
The film, directed by Bill Condon, is set to open in theaters on March 17, 2017.
Watson will join a squad of women who have portrayed “the beauty” in the tale, often named Belle.

Josette Day portrayed Belle in the French classic “La Belle et la Bete,” or “Beauty and the Beast.” Written and directed by Jean Cocteau, the movie was released in 1946.

Trish Van Devere played Belle in the 1976 TV movie “Beauty and the Beast.” The Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions movie starred her husband George C. Scott.

Rebecca De Mornay played Beauty in the 1987 movie “Beauty and the Beast.” John Savage played the Beast/Prince.
Linda Hamilton
Linda Hamilton played Catherine, the female lead, in the CBS TV series “Beauty and the Beast.” Ron Perlman played Vincent, aka the Beast. The show ran for 56 episodes and three seasons 1987-1990.
