Birds of Northern Virginia: northern cardinals

The state bird of Virginia is the northern cardinal, so it makes sense that cardinals are among the most frequent visitors to my Birdfy smart bird feeder in Fairfax County, Virginia.
They also are the biggest showoffs, checking out their reflection and posing for the camera.
Like most people, I love the bright red male cardinals the most. They are particularly striking against a snowy landscape.
But the camouflaged brown female cardinals also are pretty, especially when their raise their crest, or head feathers.
