On a recent trip to Las Vegas for work, I took the night off to see Britney Spears perform her show “Britney: Piece of Me” at the Axis Theater at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino.
I had a great time. Spears and company put on an excellent show. In true Vegas show tradition, it included lots of dancers, set and costume changes, and special effects.
As a bonus, the theater lobby had glass cases with Britney’s iconic costumes from her music videos.
Sure, Britney was likely lip-syncing to her own songs. But she was dancing so much that the music would have suffered if she didn’t use the backing track.
“Piece of Me” is a jukebox musical of Britney’s catalog of hit songs and it works well.
When I saw Britney on Jan. 3, she performed such hits as “Womanizer,” “Baby One More Time,” “Oops! I Did It Again,” “Gimme More,” “Circus,” “I Wanna Go” and “Till the World Ends.”
At age 34, Spears has assembled an impressive catalog of music. But she’s still young. I wonder what she’ll do for her next act.
