When filmmakers and film critics list their favorite movies, cinema fans often want to check out those flicks for themselves. But in some cases, those movies are not available online for streaming, digital purchase, or rental, according to Reelgood.
For instance, five of the favorite movies of director Paul Thomas Anderson are not available online. They are “The Dark Corner” (1946), “Melvin and Howard” (1980), “Nightmare Alley” (1947), “Sid & Nancy” (1986) and “The Complete Jacques Tati.”
Two of the 11 favorite films of director Wes Anderson are not available online. They are “Station Six-Sahara” (1962) and “What Price Hollywood?” (1932).
Two of the 26 favorite films of director David Fincher are not available online. They are “All That Jazz” (1979) and “Zelig” (1983).
One of the 30 favorite films of the Coen Brothers is not available online: “A Global Affair” (1964).
And director Ridley Scott named “On the Beach” (1959) as a sci-fi classic that had a major influence on him. Unfortunately, it’s not currently available online.
Finally, British film critic Mark Kermode recommended 50 essential masterpieces for film fans. But 11 of those movies are not available online in the U.S. Those movies are:
- Céline and Julie Go Boating (1974)
- Face (1997)
- Immoral Tales (1973)
- The Ipcress File (1965)
- A Matter of Life and Death (1946)
- Ordet (1955)
- Radio On (1979)
- Symptoms (1974)
- That Sinking Feeling (1979)
- Underground (1928)
- La vallée (1972), aka Obscured by Clouds
